There are GCCF Registration Policies for all
breeds/colours/patterns of cats that are eligible for Registration within the GCCF. To register a
kitten/cat as a particular breed, its pedigree must conform to the relevant
registration policy. You can't just register a cat that looks like the breed in
question - "look-alikes" can have undesirable genes hiding in their backgrounds that
could damage the breed.
Registration policies are drawn up by the
Breed or Joint Advisory Committees (BAC/JAC). These policies then go before
the GCCF Executive Committee to be approved and are then placed on a GCCF
Council agenda for final approval. BACs and JACs consist of a committee of
delegates from all the GCCF affiliated breed clubs, that have paid the
appropriate BAC fee, concerned with that particular
breed.
If you intend buying a kitten to breed
from, please check the registration policy for that breed, or for the
particular colour and/or pattern of that breed, as well as checking the
registration policies for the colours and/or patterns which you wish to
breed from it. In some breeds (Rexes, Maine Coons etc) all of the recognised
colours and patterns may be mated together, but in other breeds (Persians,
British Shorthairs) doing so may produce kittens which cannot be shown,
which are not suitable for breeding from or which may even have 'no
recognised breed' stamped across their paperwork.
I have listed all the GCCF Registration
Policies for the different breeds I work with. Please visit the different
pages for the relevant breed by using the drop down menu at the top of each
page.
If you do not fully understand the relevant registration policy
or are unsure if a kitten you intend to purchase is suitable, please ask
the GCCF how you can contact the Secretary of the relevant Breed Advisory
Committee or better still contact a committee member of the Colourpoint Cat Club
for advice.
